Family Dinner Table
My mother taught me the importance of a daily family dinner time. Supper where the table was set properly and a full hot healthy meal was prepared and ready for the family to enjoy and visit around. She did that and also a hot breakfast. Most of the time my boys want cereal...but once or twice a week I will make the traditional breakfast with eggs, bacon, toast or biscuits and gravy for them before school. Mom also said, you cook a meal even if you have one child. A child needs a sense of home and good smells when they come home from school. So, I'm getting to practice that with Sharayah off to college. She's growing into an adult. I still have two boys at home. Sis' was my picky one. She had to have gourmet food every meal. I've been putting extra care into my meals. The boys are easy to please--they would be happy with a grilled cheese sandwich. But, I still need to keep the conversation and family time a priority. It's easy to let traditions slide and opt for rushing past those things in life that leave wonderful-lasting memories. Today, I'm cooking Middle Eastern food. The boy's love it. I find joy in caring for my family--in the mundane things that make our lives run smoother. Don't forget the small things. Those are the things that will be remembered by your children.
